Walk Report

Brilliant sunshine accompanied the Wednesday Medium Car walkers as they set out from Bolsover’s Cotton Street car park for an 8 mile walk.  After leaving Bolsover and adhering to the ridge that stretches from Bolsover to Hardwick the first part of the route used field paths, with extensive routes over the Doe Lea valley, to reach the hamlet of Palterton, which takes its name from the source of the river Palter.

Continuing on the village of Glapwell was reached just in time for coffee break; taken in the grounds of the cricket club.  From here the way chosen used field paths to reach the three Houghton hamlets with their delightfully restored farm houses and cottages even more resplendent in the exceptionally bright sunshine.  Turning north woodland paths were now used where sightings of Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell, Small White, Orange Tips and Brimstone butterflies were made as the group passed alongside and through Roseland Woods.

Lunch was taken in a small clearing where the path crosses the young river Poulter with the Poulter creating the wonderfully relaxing tinkling sound as it passed over stones beneath the wooden Footbridge.  On then to the village of Scarcliffe and more delightful field edge paths passing Fox Hill to return to Bolsover via Moorlane School.
