Walk Report
On a bright sunny day, 14 walkers, including 5 visitors, set off from the lay-by just below the Grouse Inn, for an 8 mile circular walk.
The route was varied incorporating woods, rivers, villages, fields and edges. We descended through Hay Wood to Grindleford, took the paved path through Froggatt Wood to the village of Froggatt and walked along the River Derwent to Calver Mill. A steep climb through Curbar village on minor roads, interspersed with field paths, took us up to Curbar Gap, along Curbar and Froggatt Edges and back to our starting point.
Along the river, we were treated to crystal clear reflections in the water of trees on the bank; in Curbar village, we passed an unusual well, surrounded by millstones; but the Edges themselves were the stars of the show, affording spectacular views over the countryside spread out below, framed by an amazing blue sky with shifting white cumulus clouds.
