Walk Report
On a sunny Spring morning, 5 ramblers set off from Baslow Village Green for a 10 mile circular walk. The route took us through the Chatsworth Estate, the village of Edensor, across Calton Pastures and along the River Derwent before climbing up to the Hunting Tower, originally built for Bess of Hardwick.
Throughout the walk, we enjoyed the signs of Spring around us – the daffodil display on Baslow Village Green, the birdsong, the magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and of Chatsworth House with its gilded windows gleaming in the sun. Runners undertaking the Grindleford Gallop streamed past us across Calton Pastures, before taking the direct route to Edensor, while we chose the longer way via Calton Lees.
The final climb through the Dell up to the Hunting Tower was challenging, but well worth the effort for the magical scenery of water dripping from moss covered rocks and a winding balcony path with enormous rock formations and slanting trees.
