Walk Report
Despite a forecast for changeable weather, a party of ten steadfast ramblers set out from the market square. Cutting our way through swathes of wild garlic and passing over the old tramway, we arrived at Fritchley. From there, it was a descent down to the railway line before a steady climb up to our morning break destination at Heage windmill.
Fortified with date and walnut cake, the group then descended down to the Cromford canal at Starvehimvalley Bridge. A stretch along the towpath followed before negotiating a crossing of the A610. We then left the canal and via several fields, we arrived in Pentrich. The weather took a slight turn for the worse, but we were able to find shelter for lunch in the church porch with some of the more pious members seeking refuge in the church itself.
The walk then continued along the ridge to Coney Grey Farm with wonderful views across the Amber Valley. The ruined Wingfield Manor and Crich Stand both stood out as landmarks that would accompany us for the remainder of the walk. Steady progress was made up two bridleways, our endeavours rewarded by shows of bluebells, honesty and celandines. A final push up  towards the church soon found us back at our cars.
