Walk Report

12 walkes altogether with the company visitors from various areas near and far.

The walk began in Bamford. We walked up to Thornhill passing the former Derwent Valley Water Board Offices – most recently being occupied by the Bamford Quaker Community. Keeping the slopes of Win Hill on our right we passed through the Small village of Aston.

After enjoying the views of Bradwell Cement Works during our coffee break, we passed under the rail line walking alongside the River Noe. Next we crossed Edale Road keeping the slopes of Lose Hill on our right and then down and crossing over the busy A6187 at Castleton. We then followed Peakhole Water where lunch was taken sat on handy logs with Hope Valley College behind us.

We passed the Navio Roman fort at Brough-on-Noe before climbing up to Townfield Lane and down through Shatton, where we saw a random boat on a pond. At the end of Shatton Lane there was a small holding that had a manajerie of animals – a donkey, a pony, couple of turkeys, a sheep and an emu.
