Walk Report
Cutthroat Bridge was the starting point for today’s Saturday group. Dropping down to the bridge from the car park the group crossed the main A57 for the long steady climb to Winston Lee Tor where a moment was taken to drink in the views from this most excellent view point. With blue skies dotted with fluffy white clouds the view included Win Hill, Lose Hill, Mam Tor and Crookstone Knoll with the Lower reaches of the Derwent valley laid out at our feet. Continuing on to the Wheelstones a lone Spitfire flew down the valley with its mighty Merlin Engine growling as only it can. Following coffee break at the Wheelstones the path along the edge afforded further extensive views over both the valley and the moorland to the east accompanied by the regular calls of both Grouse and Curley. A lone Cuckoo joined in to enhance the corus of calls. Passing the Salt Cellar and Cakes of Bread a turn west was made at Bradfield Gate Head for the route down to Green Sitches and lunch on the edge of the copse at the top of Near Deep Clough. Lunch completed, the way down to Well Head on the side of the reservoir gave repeated views of the route taken earlier along the Derwent Edge. The track along the edge of the reservoir was then used to return first to Ashopton Viaduct then east to Cutthroat Bridge.
