Walk Report

As 10am loomed 14 brave walkers donned their waterproofs for a morning of persistent rain not helped by tall, lush, very wet grass and meadow fields. Not long into the walk we crossed a field of cows, calves and a bull. On the recce a few days previously these had not been a problem but on this day they were not at all happy. We had problems in trying to shoo them away and great thanks goes out to John who took up the rear and bravely had a stand off with the bull.

Tea break was delayed until we could find shelter under a stand of trees and flapjack was administered. We walked up to the delightful hamlet of Wheatcroft and then slipped and slithered our way to Crich Stand where finally the rain abated and lunch was  enjoyed at the little memorial garden. The route took us down through Crich and onto Parkhead where the option of shortening the walk was offered – 5 took up this short cut – not surprising as my own feet had grown gills by this point.

However the remaining 9 enjoyed the rest of the walk in glorious sunshine as we walked by the extensive remains of Wingfield Manor.

Thankyou all for your humour and resilience.
